Answers inbetween questions here, but first off, Timelord is PC only and Qlab is Mac only, so all depends on what is available:
do you use those software with SMPTE as audio track?
*Half and half, it all depends on what I am doing, both have their advantages and disadvantages, but to simplify, if I have access to a "more than stereo" audiocard or Dante virtual soundcard I will go for SMPTE, if I only have a stereo soundcard I will go for MTC as it does not take any audio channels.
I realised that M-Sync works perfect with SMPTE, but time of synchronisation
is about 1-2 sek. at the beginning of SMPTE signal is given from DAW to M-PC,
it makes possible to synchronise longer parallel wavs, for example entire songs with duration about 3-5 min. So, it's OK in the case of longer songs and SMPTE use, but if it is needed faster jumps, for example
each after 1 or 2 music bars /in DAW/ this time dalay is too large /in the case of SMPTE/, in my knowledge MIDI MTC synchronisation is needed in this case /maybe I'm wrong - please correct if I'm not right/.
*Time of syncronisation is roughly the same for both MTC and SMPTE (around 15-20 frames) so you will not be able to "hardswop" between songs using any kind of TC-source, only way to get that to work is to have all songs premixed in the same track and have TC to that, I only use TC with prerecorded mixes or enough time between songs that it works.
So I would not have a solution for the scenario you are describing, only way for that is to run the show live for the 1second sync time gap or hide it in a massive strobe burst..
So what are your experiences in the case of MIDI MTC inputting M-PC?
Does MIDI MTC synchronization works perfect?
I mean on the transmitter /DAW/ side, becasue on receiving side = M-PC it works well which I've tested, but for testing I used Cubase which isn't very usefull as media player in this case.
*as above, my experience is 15-20frames of sync time so nothing works perfect, try buing a license of Timelord for $35 and experiment or use Reaper which has a free version also able to send MTC.
Do you use exactely MIDI MTC /which is necessary in M-PC
(not MIDI Sync! which doesn't work in M-PC)/ and your DAW
can generate MIDI MTC as master?
*timelord or Qlab can both generate Midi MTC and sends perfectly to M-PC or controllers (on PC you need a usb-midi card to get it into MPC.
Do you create all light synchronised show with all songs in ONE DAW file /which I need/ and you only trigger songs step by step at desired moments
or you have to download separate DAW files = for each song another
/which could be unconvenient during live performance/?
- both programs can have multiple audiotracks arranged in a playlist and you can either trig individual songs in the program or via midi/artnet triggers from MPC.
